My dream

My biggest dream is to see a world free of children being infected with HIV through mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of the virus. Its indeed very painful to see a child so innocent but infected with HIV either during delivery or breastfeeding and has to be put on the anti-retroviral drugs for the rest of his/her life. It is even worse in poor countries where these children more often than not are orphaned and are left at the mercy of extended families who are poverty-stricken.If all was possible, enough funding should be provided to research and interventions to prevent the MTCT.

What I expect from YouBridge

The notebook will help me to keep in touch with my friends, family members and colleagues by e-mail after I subscribe to a broad band company or to the broadband offered by one of the telecom companies in Uganda especially during weekends and outside office hours. Internet cafes are usually very slow and for the fast ones sometimes require booking and are more expensive. It will also help me do some official work from home if circumstance demands so.Of course it will greatly help me in the academic work in my e-learning course Msc in Public Health of the IHSU.

Music

My favourite movies are the Prison Break and 24 although I also enjoy some of the African movies by Nigerian actors and actresses. I enjoy musics by the following musicians: Tupac (RIP), UB40, R.Kelly (although I regretfully missed his show in Kampala last week 29-01-10), Mary J. Blight, Spice Girls and a few a few local artists such as Bobi Wine and Chameleone.

Associations

I am a member of: 1) Uganda Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda (PSU), 2) ASPIRE, a management group of the International School of Business and Technology (ISBAT), KampalaDuring my undergraduate days at Makerere University, I was a member of several student associations including a Disciplinary Secretary of the Livingstone Halls Students Common Room (SCR) as well as President of Makerere niversity Pharmacy Students Association.

Interests

My hobbies include travelling, reading and listening to musics. In the photos attached, are: a section of our home library, when I was enjoying a boat ride with my lovely wife as well as another photo of my wife and I in a wild-life centre.

About me

I am in a 10-year happy marriage with three children aged 6 (girl), 4 (boy) and 19 months (girl). The first born will start primary one (P.1) and the boy will start Nursery baby class next week. Both will go to the same school which is not far from home. In the extended family, I was a third born in a family on 7 with two sisters and 4 brothers. However, our father had a second wife and so I have two step sisters and 4 step brothers. One of my sisters died of AIDS in the mid 90?s and that greatly influenced my decision to study pharmacy, hoping to find a cure for the disease. Although that hope hasn?t come to pass yet, I am happy that my contributions to the fight against HIV/AIDS in Uganda has helped many infected people live a more productive life by ensuring availability of Anti-retroviral drugs at JCRC and its over 50 treatment centres throughout the country.
