Pranab Raj Dhakal's Student Testimonial

22.04.2011
Hello, I am Pranab Raj Dhakal. I was born in a suburb near Pokhara in Nepal (Thaprek-1, Tanahun Distrikt, Gandaki zone), as a first child among three in my family. I am 20 years old. My father Narayan is a yoga teacher in Pokhara, my mother is a house wife. On the picture you see me with my grandmother. Even though my grandfather died long time ago, she’s still living on her own in her small house on the mountain hills. I like to visit her. It’s a long walk by feet and the nature is so beautiful up there.

I grew up in Pokhara, near the Phewa lake. Now I'm in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal for my further studies (bachelors degree) in mechanical engineering in Ioe (Pulchok campus). I got pretty good education due to a lot of efforts from my parents. I'm very thankful to them, it isn't easy for them.  I always did the best I could to get good results at school and sometimes I do some guiding or translating work to help the financing of my studies.

Here you see me with a group of French and Belgian students who are teaching and working for several months in the only public school in the mountains near Tallipokhari. I was their guide and translator when they first get to the village. The school principal you see on my right is my uncle.

My dream, and the reason why I choose to become an engineer instead of following my big dream of becoming a musician (that's my hobby!), is to serve my underdeveloped country as a nation builder. I want to help the needy people and my needy nation. It's really necessary if you imagine that even having electricity is a big problem here. We just have 3 hours of electricity during the day, and 4 hours through the night. I would like so much to help to solve at least this problem and hopefully many more.

Another dream I have is to get a laptop. For my studies it's important, and here in the city we can go to internet cafés, but that costs a lot. I also dream to be in touch with people all over the world. It's not possible for me to travel, but getting on the internet and being in touch with people all over the world is also travelling a little bit. I would like to discuss about my studies, my dreams, my country and so much more.

In the long term, I also want to teach. I dream of getting young children interested in science, I dream of raising the educational standard here, I dream of getting knowledge in various sectors.

And above that all, I dream of having a lovely family with a happy wife and happy children that I can tell lots of beautiful stories.
